Norrise. Alderson, Ph.D.
Associate Commissioner for Science, Food and Drug Administration (FDA)

Dr. Alderson began his career in FDA in 1971 following graduate and post-doctoral work at the University of Kentucky. The majority of his FDA career has been in the Center for Veterinary Medicine, holding a number of management positions, culminating in the position of Director, Office of Research. In his current position, he is responsible for the coordination of science issues across the agency, the Office of Women’s Health, Office of Orphan Products Development, the Good Clinical Practices Staff and standards coordination. In 2001, he became Acting Senior Advisor for Science and Acting Director of the Office of Science Coordination and Communication. In 2002, he was appointed Associate Commissioner for Science. Dr. Alderson serves as the FDA's focal point for nanotechnology, educating the FDA about the technology in order to ensure meaningful regulation by the agency.

Robert W. Lee, Ph.D., Vice President of Pharmaceutical Development, Novovax
Robert W. Lee, Ph.D., was appointed to the position of Vice President of Pharmaceutical Development for Novavax in September 2005. Dr. Lee joined Novavax following more than 15 years of experience in pharmaceutical research and development of both therapeutic drugs and diagnostic imaging agents. His areas of expertise include preformulation, drug delivery, formulation development, analytical sciences, sterile manufacturing and technology evaluation and development. Dr. Lee was one of the founding members of NanoSystems, a drug delivery company focused on the formulation of water-insoluble drugs. He is also one of the founders and an advisor of NanoScan Imaging, LLC, formed to develop a novel computed tomography contrast agent for indications including staging lung cancer, lymphography and vascular imaging.

Dr. Lee received his Ph.D. in physical bioorganic chemistry in 1990 from the University of California, Santa Barbara. He earned B.S. degrees in chemistry and biology from the University of Washington in 1983.
