Dr. George T. Gillies is a Research Professor of Mechanical and Biomedical Engineering who has been on the faculty of the School of Engineering and Applied Science at University of Virginia for 10 years. His background includes employment as a physicist with the
International Bureau of Weights and Measures in France, a Development Staff member with Martin Marietta Energy Systems at the U.S. DOE Oak Ridge Complex, along with service as a consultant to several industrial and academic institutions. He has served as Principle
Investigator of the University of Virginia research program in “Magnetic Stereotaxis,” and holds the adjunct title of Clinical Associate Professor of Neurosurgery at the Medical College of Virginia in Richmond, as part of his ongoing participation in that research effort.

Dr. Gillies received his B.S. in Physics from North Dakota State University in 1974; his M.S. in Engineering Physics from University of Virginia in 1976; and his Ph.D. in Engineering Physics from University of Virginia in 1980. He has written well over 175 journal articles, conference proceedings, and book chapters, and has 13 U.S. patents issued, and 27 U.S. patents pending.
